If we moved to Newtok thinking we would be safe from pranksters, we were wrong!
This afternoon, a group of teachers and students got us good.
Kevin, a husband of one teacher, came to our place as we were relaxing and enjoying our coffee for the day.
He knocked on our door and said that they had seen a moose just down the boardwalk by the river.
Now, Josh and I have yet to see a moose, and we have been waiting for this opportunity.
As soon as he said moose, we both jumped up, ran to put a sweatshirt on, and excitedly grabbed our camera.
I wished someone had this part on camera because we were running into each other, scrambling to get everything together to prove we had actually seen one.
We got everything together in record time, like less than a minute.
We are running down our steps, about to turn the corner, and then we get ambushed!
Waiting for us around the building are teachers and students with a ton of water balloons and water guns. We get drenched!
The entire time I can just hear myself trying to run away screaming.. looking like a chicken with it's head cut off!
Joshua got it worse than I did, because most of the students aimed for him first... I guess the slowest man gets it the worse?! :)
But it was definitely a good prank because it was a surprise attack.
The only thing I can say is you all better sleep with one eye open because the Hall's know how to give a payback!!!
Joshua and his drenched sweatshirt.
The enemies:)
Now the best part of the story is after the fight.
In our hurry to get out of the door to see this fake moose, Joshua and I both forgot to grab our keys to our house.
So we are both drenched and locked out of our house.
It has been an exciting day!
Joshua trying to jimmy the door open with a screwdriver.. doesn't work. What now?
Climb through the window, obviously.
Three of my students helped Josh in and helped take off his boot so he wouldn't track mud in the house. So responsible...
Hopefully this excitement keeps up. We are getting ready to go explore with another teacher, so maybe, just maybe, we will be able to see a moose!
Side note: We will now, even in pure excitement, never leave without our keys!
