Packing Day Malruk

Here it is.. Packing Day Malruk!

You guessed it.. Malruk means two in Yupik!

We sent our second round of tubs a week later than our first.
Since we had sent a bunch of canned goods, kitchen gear, etc. our first round,
this round was mainly our bedding, towels, pillows, and a few decorative stuff to cheer up our place a bit! ... even 4,000 miles away in rural Alaska, we wanted our house to feel like our home..
our first one to be exact!

As you can see, we did not have that much stuff as our first round, but this load still took two tubs and one box full of our pots and pans.

We decided to make it easier on how much we could fit in one tub by getting space bags.  I do not know if you have ever used one before, but they are awesome!
The first space bag fit our bedding/sheets and one huge, green blanket.
The second space bag had our two pillows.

To show our compact space bags can be....

Organizing our things into these tubs can be stressful in itself because you have to figure out just the right way to pack to get everything in there safely, but compact.
Here is a picture of one tub that is partially filled.

The best DIY decoration we packed was our small pillows that said Mr. and Mrs.
The signs were hanging on our chairs at the wedding in this picture...

And my awesome mother made pillows out of them like this...
With a sweet yellow print fabric on the back.. awesome right?!

After this round was sent off (this round was even cheaper than the first, praise the LORD), the Hall's are done with shipping costs!
At least until we are in Anchorage. We decided to wait until Anchorage to get items such as shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, etc.  That way, the shipping costs won't be so high since we will already be in AK!

We hope this shed some light on what it took to pack for rural Alaska! Now all we have to do next is pack our suitcases, head up to Chicago to see Joshua's family, then fly out!
That's when the real stories will be told! Stay tuned:)
